This year the Waypoint Community has an extra Thanksgiving blessing! Carrie Torres has followed God’s lead to build a strong foundation of learning about God’s love for the children in our midst. We are grateful to Carrie for all she has done to nurture the children and equip families to lead children in their journey of faith and happy for her as she starts a new chapter in the life of her family.
We are equally as thrilled to welcome Kathy Gilchrist as our new Children’s Ministry Director. Kathy has already shown her passion for deepening the faith journey of our community with young families by starting the young families group twice a month on Sunday mornings and being active in BaseCamp. She and her husband Peter have two children, Spence and Mary. On Sunday, November 19 after the service we will celebrate Carrie’s ministry and express our gratitude to her as well as welcome Kathy in her new role.
You can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Remembering Jesus words, “Let the little children come to me,” we are excited to partner with Kathy to build the body of Christ among our families and children! Please, join us in praying for Kathy as she embarks on this new role and jump in to support her!
A word from Kathy—
I am so excited and humbled by this position. As most of us have felt at some point, I believe God intended the current sermon series strictly for my heart to embrace this position.
What echoed in my mind was God tells us, “I am ready, if you are ready,” and “God uses the unfit … if you let Him.”
See, I always thought maybe, just maybe, one day I would be involved in children ministry … but was I ready? Am I disciplined enough in my faith journey? Am I well-versed in scripture? Do I have the time to commit? The one answer I received was, “Now therefore go.” Be still and trust. I am thankful to have this opportunity to grow and embrace the truths our children need to carry in their hearts.
Not to offend anyone, but I like to mingle with the best. And, you know what? The children of Waypoint are the best and smartest people in our church; they are absorbing and learning beyond anything an adult can process. How lucky am I that I can hopefully tap into that and learn alongside of them.
I firmly believe Waypoint has the ability to make a lasting imprint on their faith and equip the parents of Waypointers with tools to make the faith journey easier. Just yesterday I attended a curriculum conference where I was able to see all the resources Waypoint has available to our children. I was blown away to learn tools to tap into each phase of their development. I can’t wait to share these and see what God can do!
I thank Carrie Torres for establishing such a great foundation for this ministry!
